One of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific War in WW2: US Marines invade Tarawa to meet fierce resistance from the Japanese
con’t….. create a beachhead. The landings on Green beach were conducted by rubber boats which passed over the mines. Follow on forces in Higgins boats hit some of these. Had the assault gone in here the mines would have claimed many LVTs and Higgins boats.
4. The tide of the battle was changed when Shibisaki was killed on day one and when the Marines kept wading in on the morning of day two. This last fact was the point at which the Japanese knew the had met death.
Semper Fi !
WOW! Your lack of knowledge of the amphibious assault is astounding.
1. Plenty of screening smoke from pre assault bombardment
2. Not low tide, but a “neap” tide. Had the attack been postponedfor proper tides the defenses of Betio would have been considerably stronger.
3. Green beach was NOT the least defended, The Red beaches were, the Black beaches were the most heavily defended. Initial landings on Green beaches would have been on to narrow a front for sufficient forces to Con’t…..
That would be true on both sides, the Japanese were doing only what they were taught to do and believe in. They were fighting for their Emperor…their God, they were very skilled and rugged soldiers, their job was to die for the God, not fight for their people or homes, which is a very different thing from America and Americans.
I’m not sure you understand what is meant here…. The meaning is against all odds, against all hope, they fought and they won, knowing they very likely would die doing it. They had to do what they were sent to do, and they did it in spite of the odds… in spite knowing there was a good chance they would not live. There is no humor there, then or now.
Well done & accurate. Thank you.
what was that again?
Agreed.
Typical Marine amphibious operation. Broad daylight, no screening smoke, low tide to hang up the landing craft, and attacking broadside into the most heavily defended side of the island, instead of its undefended end (which incidentally was used to land the force which turned the tide of the battle.) How hard would it be to land at high tide, pre-dawn, fire smoke to blind the gunners when it got light, and place the landing on the narrow end of the island instead in front of all the guns?
I just ordered a book on the Battle of Tarawa from Amazon.
Why a COW? xD
Lessons were learned and often forgotten…….Peleliu…..Iwo Jima….

God bless the USA and the silly Japanese didn’t think we could fight
@fuckstick925 jui
I love ww2
its the first clip, there are plenty of others afterword
I’d say that those few Japanese soldiers that survived out of the thousands, would be classified as a triumph of the human spirit.. No humor here, just respect for the sacrifice our our soldiers, and the unfortunate sacrifice of the Japanese who perished there. I lived on Guam, 10 years after the war. The scars of the fighting were still there. I was a kid then. I remember two kids blown up down the street after finding a live grenade. We found a Marine helmet in our yard, a bullet hole in it.
Samuel Smith Northington, E 2/2, hit Red Two, neutralized machine gun nests on the pier, and fought non-stop for all 76 hours until the last Japanese soldiers and Korean slaves had been wiped out. He survived Midway, Guadalcanal, and Tarawa, adding to his Battalion’s “Warlords” reputation each time, and finally died of Parkinson’s five years ago today.
Love you, Papa Sam. Miss you every day.
FUCK YEAH!!
‘Tuesday Morning in September’, is uploaded on my channel in a downgraded form. It is the most respectful, of those that lost loved ones on 9/11, as it is the most complete real-time; continuous chronicle from a first-person source/video/vantage, to ever surface. . run-time 130 minutes. Consider purchasing it on DVD; something that you will hold onto and share with others for years to come. A 9-11 essential. It is not a production, but is true to that day.. something very different.
8:00 “Tarawa was a triumph of a human spirit”. Wow. That’s a very very black humour.
4:20 показан холм, там была жесткая рукопашная схватка, вообще это место было одним из самых губительных

RIP to the fallen and wounded, brave American soldiers, and thank god for the atomic bombs that finally ended the Jap madness and menace!
Lol, cow near the end
P.S. What’s everyone fighting about?
Ok, so where have you served, and who did you serve with? You “value the things I curse”? You don’t even know me, so what makes you think I curse anything? If anyone has been cursing, it has been you “well, shit for brains” “fuck’m” Did you see me use any of that language in my comments to you? Have you ever seen me actually curse anything? I tell you now, the can that makes plenty noise is empty.
Yes I have been to war and I have killed! As for your weak attempt your inlook into my daily life…well shit for brains you are way off base. I value the things you curse, I love the things you can’t see in people, and most of all I am alive and some of my friends are not…just to give you that freedom you bitch about above! Would I stand….I have and I also kneeled! If you have anything else to say….talk to your maker because their is nothing I can say that would change u!
Have you ever been to war? If not, then how can you honestly say that? Sure, those are the things you’d like to do, sitting at home on your pc drinking coffee in a comfortable life, but if that situation ever came up, would you really have the balls to do it? Would you have the knowledge to see where the enemies weak points are? Would you even have the strength to stand, let alone fight? What if they torture you before you even have a chance to think up a plan of action?
3:40 the guys running in the background are all japs…this is one of the few videos that you actually see the enemy in it
and not to mention tortured POW’s
Yes. We get it. I seen this on like 3 other videos -.-
Yes they were told that but mostly it came from their training as Bushido Warriors and to surrender was a disgrace not only to the soldier but also his family! So in the end you get what we got….FUCK’M you can die for a code I will die for my country but if captured will do anything and everything I can to disrupt, escape, and deny the enemy anything!
